Service Description
Laser eye treatment uses highly focused light energy to treat specific structures within the eye without conventional incisional surgery. It may be recommended to manage glaucoma, restore vision following cataract surgery or treat certain retinal conditions. The treatment prescribed will depend on your diagnosis, eye health and individual clinical needs. Before proceeding, you will receive a comprehensive assessment and a clear explanation of the expected benefits, available alternatives and potential risks. Conditions We Treat: Glaucoma Laser Treatment Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that can damage the optic nerve, often because the pressure inside the eye is too high. Laser treatment may be used to improve the drainage of fluid from the eye and reduce intraocular pressure. Depending on the type of glaucoma, treatment may include: -Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty, commonly known as SLT, is primarily used for open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. The laser is applied to the eye’s natural drainage system to improve fluid outflow and lower eye pressure. SLT may be recommended as an initial treatment or alongside existing glaucoma medication. In some patients, it can reduce the number of pressure-lowering eye drops required. However, individual responses vary, and continued medication or additional treatment may still be necessary. -Laser Peripheral Iridotomy Laser Peripheral Iridotomy, or LPI, may be recommended for patients with narrow drainage angles or those at risk of angle-closure glaucoma. The laser creates a very small opening in the iris, allowing fluid to circulate more freely and helping to prevent a sudden rise in eye pressure. Laser treatment can help control eye pressure, but it cannot restore vision already lost through glaucoma. Continued monitoring remains essential following treatment. -YAG Laser Capsulotomy YAG laser capsulotomy is used to treat posterior capsule opacification, a common condition that can develop months or years after cataract surgery. During cataract surgery, the cloudy natural lens is replaced with a clear artificial lens. The thin capsule supporting this lens may subsequently become cloudy, causing blurred or hazy vision, glare, difficulty reading or reduced visual clarity. This is sometimes described as a “secondary cataract,” although the original cataract has not returned.
