About Miss Aikaterini (Katerina) Roussou
Ms Roussou is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon specialising in cataract and comprehensive glaucoma care. She performs routine and complex cataract surgery and offers tailored refractive solutions designed around each patient’s individual visual goals and lifestyle needs.
Her glaucoma practice encompasses the full spectrum of care, including medical and laser treatments as well as advanced surgical management. She has extensive experience in minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) and a variety of glaucoma procedures, including trabeculectomy and glaucoma drainage devices such as the Paul Glaucoma Implant, PreserFlo™ MicroShunt, Ahmed valves and Baerveldt implants.
Ms Roussou is committed to delivering personalised, evidence-based care with a strong emphasis on safety, clear communication, and long-term visual outcomes. She works closely with her patients to ensure they feel informed, supported, and confident at every stage of their treatment journey.


Education & Training
Miss Katerina Roussou completed her medical degree in Greece at the Democritus University of Thrace Medical School, graduating in the top 10% of her class. She subsequently undertook her ophthalmology specialty training in Athens, Greece, followed by advanced postgraduate and subspecialty training in the United Kingdom, gaining broad experience across all ophthalmic subspecialties.
During her UK training, she worked at major London teaching hospitals, including Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, where she developed extensive experience in medical retina, uveitis, cornea, glaucoma, laser treatments and cataract surgery within high-volume tertiary referral centres.
Following completion of her ophthalmology training, Dr Roussou undertook advanced subspecialty training in cataract and glaucoma surgery at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, where she worked as a Senior Glaucoma and Cataract Fellow. During this fellowship, she gained specialist experience in routine and complex cataract surgery and comprehensive exposure to modern glaucoma surgical techniques, including minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) such as iStent, Hydrus, OMNI Surgical System and glaucoma devices such as the PreserFlo™ MicroShunt, and Paul Glaucoma Implant, alongside trabeculectomy and laser treatments. She also managed complex glaucoma cases in dedicated specialist clinics.
Alongside her clinical training, Dr Roussou completed a Master’s degree in the Management of Refractive Errors and Refractive Surgery, reflecting advanced expertise in refractive outcomes, lens-based surgery and the management of patients with high postoperative visual demands.
Dr Roussou has successfully passed the European Board of Ophthalmology (EBO) examinations and is a Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO), achieving 2nd place in country ranking. She has also successfully completed the European Board of Ophthalmology Specialist Diploma in Glaucoma (FEBOS-Glaucoma), demonstrating a high level of subspecialty training, expertise and dedication to excellence in glaucoma care.
She is currently a substantive Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust, based at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford. In addition to her NHS role, she works part-time at SpaMedica and undertakes private practice at New Hayesbank Surgery, Ashford, providing high-quality ophthalmic care across both NHS and independent healthcare settings.
